Pleural Thickening

Asbestos Illnesses.

Pleural Thickening:

The lung is encased by a fine lining called the Pleura (in a healthy state, it is well lubricated and expands easily when we breath.) This lining can become damaged by breathing in asbestos dust and fibres over a period of time. The pleura may then become thickened by asbestos damage and then restrict the lung expansion.

Pleural thickening can be caused by exposure to asbestos, however, like many asbestos-related diseases; pleural thickening may not develop until many years after a person was exposed to asbestos.

Symptoms of pleural thickening include shortness of breath and tightness around the chest. If you are aware that you have previously been exposed to asbestos and begin to experience these symptoms, it is important to seek advice from your GP as an X-ray will help to diagnose pleural thickening.

Pleural thickening is a potentially disabling condition, and can be extremely worrying for sufferers who may then become susceptible to other asbestos-related illnesses, such as Asbestosis or Mesothelioma.

Our specialist team successfully negotiate compensation on a provisional basis and therefore if the Client suffers an additional asbestos related illness, we are able to obtain further compensation for the development of the additional illness and the disability that it may cause.

It is important that your Solicitor recognises the risk of the potential development of additional asbestos related diseases, and settles the matter on the provision that you are able to claim further compensation if necessary in the future.
