Repetitive Strain Injury

What is RSI?

Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is an injury of the rnusculoskeletal and nervous systems that may be caused by repetitive tasks, forceful exertions, vibrations, mechanical compression (pressing against hard surfaces), or sustained or awkward positions.

Common Syrrit orris The following complaints are typical in patients who might receive a diagnosis of RSI:

  • Pain in the arm, back, shoulders, wrists, hands, or thumbs
  • The pain is worse with activity.
  • Weakness, lack of endurance.

These symptoms may be attributable to your work if it involves any of the following:

  • A high rate of repetition over a long period
  • Strong force
  • Bad posture
