Careless or inconsiderate driving

Road Traffic Act 1988, section 3
If a person drives a … vehicle on a road or other public place without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place he is guilty of an offence.

For you to be convicted of this offence the prosecution must show that you were at fault by proving that the standard of your driving departed from the reasonable prudent driver in all the circumstances of the case.

The penalties for such an offence could be between 3-9 penalty points but the Court also have the discretion to disqualify you instead of endorsing your licence with penalty points if this is felt to be appropriate in the circumstances of the case.  The Court also has the power to impose a fine which is limited to £5000.
